The Friends of the Central Library welcomes Alice McDermott to the 21st Season of the Rosamond Gifford Lectures Series.
Alice McDermott is an American writer and is Johns Hopkins University’s Writer-in-Residence university professor. She won an American Book Award and the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction in 1998 for Charming Billy. She was born in Brooklyn in 1953, graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a BA, in 1975, and received her MA from the University of New Hampshire in 1978. Her most recent novel, Someone (2013), was longlisted for the 2013 National Book Award, Fiction. Ms. McDermott lives outside Washington, D.C. with her husband, a neuroscientist, and three children.
